Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) in Baden-Airpark, Germany can often easily be reached on public transportation (buses) but at times only a car or taxi will do.

Public transportation to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is either easy or rather complicated depending on the day and time of arrival. Public buses (205 & 234) operate only on weekdays and are not suitable for early morning departures or late night arrivals. Other buses operate rather infrequently making a car generally the preferred method of transportation.

  • Only low-cost airlines fly to Baden-Airpark allowing for cheap flights but always factor in transportation cost if arriving at odd hours.

By Car to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB)

The easiest way to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is by car. Driving time to Baden-Baden and Rastatt are generally less than 20 minutes (14 km / 9 miles) and to Karlsruhe around 30 minutes (45 km / 30 miles). The signposting Baden-Airpark is very clear and parking at the airport is plentiful and relatively cheap.

  • From Autobahn A5 (Basel – Freiburg – Karlsruhe – Heidelberg – Frankfurt) use the Baden-Baden exit but drive away from the spa town towards Iffezheim and turn left onto the B36.
  • From Baden-Baden, use the B500 towards the A5 and continue as above.
  • From Rastatt simply follow the B36 south to the airport.
  • From France (Strasbourg), use highway A35, exit 56 (Roppenheim) to cross the Rhine into Germany and towards Baden-Baden. It is around 60 km (an hour) to Strasbourg.

The only car rental agencies at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) are Sixt, Europcar, and Hertz. Advance reservations are highly advisable.

By Taxi to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB)

Metered taxis from the airport to Baden-Baden are around €30. Various shuttle services are also available to several towns in both Germany and France and are best reserved in advance.

Bus Services to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB)

Several bus services are available to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport. The public buses 205 and 234 operate strictly according to the timetable (and not at all on weekends) while some of the others may wait slightly in case of flight delays.

  • Buses stop up to three times in Baden-Airpark – for the airport use the last stop, Baden-Airpark Terminal.

Public Bus 205 to Baden-Baden in Germany

On weekdays, public bus 205 connects Baden-Baden Station and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport once per hour in just less than half an hour. The first bus from the station departs at 6:16 (6:44 from the airport) and the last bus to the airport departs at 8:07 pm (8:32 pm from the airport).

  • Trains to Karlsruhe connect well with the arrival and departure times of bus 205 for a total traveling time of around an hour.

Public Bus 234 to Karlsruhe and Rastatt in Germany

On weekdays, public bus 234 connects Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport with Karlsruhe via Rastatt. The bus takes around an hour to Karlsruhe (30 minutes to Rastatt) and runs mostly once per hour. The first bus to the airport departs from Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof (Main Station) at 6:08 am (6:58 from the airport) while the last bus leaves Karlsruhe at 7:19 pm (7:14 pm from the airport).

  • Bus 205 to Baden-Baden Station and then by train to Karlsruhe is a useful alternative.

Baden-Airpark Express Bus 140 to Heidelberg (via Baden-Baden & Karlsruhe)

Hahn Express operates a bus service from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport via Baden-Baden Station and Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof to Heidelberg with a few buses continuing all the way to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN). The Baden-Airpark Express or Bus 140 runs three to six times per day with two to four buses continuing all the way to Hahn. More buses are available to Karlsruhe with trains connecting to Heidelberg.

  • Traveling time to Heidelberg is 90 minutes.

Flightliner Bus to Freiburg, Kehl, and Strasbourg (France)

Once a day the Flightliner Airport-Shuttle, operated by Eberhardt Reisen, connects Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport with Strasbourg, Kehl, Europa-Park and Freiburg. Traveling time to Strasbourg is an hour and two and a half hours to Freiburg. The bus is timed to coordinate with the Ryanair flight to London-Stansted but anyone may use the bus.

By Train to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB)

Trains do not run to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport. The closest railway station is Baden-Baden although Karlsruhe Hauptbahnhof has many more connections.

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is very convenient for visitors to the German Black Forest (Schwarzwald). If flight times correspond well with the bus schedules or a car is rented, it is also a good alternative for travelers to Strasbourg. Cheap flights to Baden-Airpark are common on low-cost airlines, which are rarely seen at Strasbourg Airport (SXB).
