Volkswagen, Renault, Audi, Opel, and BMW were the best-selling passenger car brands in Switzerland in 2010. The VW Golf remains the Swiss' favorite new car.

In 2010, Volkswagen (VW) easily maintained its position as the best-selling car manufacturer in Switzerland. Renault narrowly outsold Audi to take second place on the list of top-selling car brands in 2010. The Swiss car market in 2010 was strong with almost all manufacturers managing to increase the number of cars sold in Switzerland. The VW Golf remains the best-selling car model in Switzerland.

A total of 294,239 new passenger vehicles were sold in Switzerland in 2010. Car sales statistics released by Auto Schweiz show new car registrations in Switzerland in 2010 increasing by 10.9% over the figures of 2009. 2010 was the strongest year for car sales in Switzerland since 2002.

Changes in the Top-Selling Car Brands in Switzerland in 2010

There was no change in the brands represented on the list of top twenty best-selling cars in Switzerland in 2010 compared to 2009. On the top-ten list of top-selling car brands the only new entrant was Citroen, at the expense of Mercedes.

Relative position changes on the list of best-selling car brands in Switzerland in 2010 were also fairly minor. Volkswagen easily maintained its traditional top spot by selling almost double as many cars as second place Renault. Renault only narrowly outsold Audi to reverse their list positions from 2009.

Opel and Ford switched positions while BMW remained the fifth best-selling car brand in Switzerland. Peugeot and Skoda improved their ranking at the expense of Toyota, which had a weak year. Citroen narrowly outsold Mercedes to round off the list of the top ten best-selling car brands in Switzerland in 2010.

Strong New Passenger Vehicle Sales in Switzerland in 2010

2010 saw the strongest car market in Switzerland since 2002 with sales improving by 10.6% over 2009. Almost all car manufacturers managed to increase the number of cars sold in 2010.

The most improved brand in Switzerland in 2010 was Dacia (+128.1%), which at position 21 just failed to break into the top 20 list. Nissan improved sales by a third while Peugeot, Skoda, and Seat all improved sales by over 20%.

Japanese car manufacturers had a mixed year in Switzerland in 2010. Nissan, Suzuki, and Mitsubishi (+23.1% at position 22) increased sales while Honda, Mazda, Subaru, and Toyota sold fewer cars in a growing Swiss market in 2010. Of the top twenty car manufacturers, Honda (-14.7%) was the worst performer over all with Toyota (-1.6%) also having a miserable year.

The VW Golf remained the favorite car model of Swiss buyers in 2010.
