Low-cost airline Ryanair has cheap tickets and discount airfares on flights to Düsseldorf (Weeze) Airport (NRN), Germany from London-Stansted and European cities.

Airport Weeze (NRN) is a small regional airport to the north of Düsseldorf, Germany near the Dutch border. The airport is also sometimes referred to by its previous names: Flughafen Weeze-Laarbruch and Flughafen Niederrhein.

Attempts to work Düsseldorf, the only nearby town with immediate international recognition, into the airport name have been forbidden by German courts. Weeze’s main customer, Ryanair, insist in calling it “Düsseldorf (Weeze)” but may use that name only in advertisement in Germany if the words “ca. 70 km from Düsseldorf” are displayed prominently.

  • Although it is managed by the company Flughafen Niederrhein GmbH, the more international name Airport Weeze is used even in German.

Cheap Flights on Low-Cost Airline Ryanair from Düsseldorf (Weeze) NRN

Budget carrier Ryanair is the main operator from Düsseldorf (Weeze) NRN. Since mid-2007, Ryanair has been using Weeze as its third German hub (after Frankfurt-Hahn and Bremen).

Ryanair currently has flights from Weeze Airport to Alghero, Alicante, Barcelona, Breslau, Bydgoszcz, Fuerteventura, Glasgow-Prestwick, London-Stansted (STN), Malaga, Marrakech, Milan-Bergamo, Palma de Mallorca, Rome-Ciampino, Seville, Shannon, Smaland-Växjö, Stockholm-Skavsta, Trapani, Valencia, Venice-Treviso, and Wroclaw (Breslau).

  • As is the case with Weeze, many of these airports are also a long bus ride from the ultimate destination but cheap tickets often make up for this inconvenience.

Cheap Flights on Low-Cost Airline Sky Airlines from Düsseldorf (Weeze) NRN

Low-cost carrier Sky Airlines has flights from Airport Weeze to Antalya in Turkey.

  • Hamburg International operated weekly flights during summer 2007 from Weeze to Erbil in Northern Iraq.

Ground Transportation to Düsseldorf (Weeze) NRN

Around 10 million people live within an hour’s drive of Airport Weeze. Around a third of all passengers originate from the Netherlands. For local residents, Weeze is a useful airport but for many foreign visitors, especially those using public transportation, the airport’s location is far from ideal.

By Train to Airport Weeze in Germany

The closest railway station to Airport Weeze is the station in the town Weeze. A regional train from Düsseldorf to Cleve via Krefeld passes by twice hourly on weekdays and hourly on weekdays. Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof to Weeze station takes 65 minutes. Connections to Aachen, Maastricht, and Cologne (Köln) as well as Ruhr cities Duisburg, Oberhausen, Essen, Bochum, and Dortmund are generally best made in Krefeld.

  • The trains may arrive twice per hour but the Airport Shuttle Bus connects the railway station and airport terminal only once per hour in about 10 minutes.

By Bus to Airport Weeze in Germany

Several bus services are available to Airport Weeze from both German and Dutch towns.

  • Bohr Omnibusse has a service up to six time per day to Düsseldorf (90 minutes), Cologne (2h30), and Brühl (3h).
  • Airport Shuttle Express has five service per day to Moers (35 minutes), Duisburg (50 minutes) and Essen (1h10). Extensions to Oberhausen, Bochem, and Dortmund are planned for the future. Reservations are possible but only essential from Moers.
  • Taxi Hottgenroth has a service to the Dutch towns Venray (25 minutes), Nijmegen (45 minutes), and Arnheim (65 minutes). Prior reservations are essential.
  • The Air Express Bus has six daily services to Utrecht (2h30) and Amsterdam (3h30). Reservations are possible.

Flights to Airport Weeze too limited or from the wrong destinations? Try alternative airports in Western Germany. For travelers to Düsseldorf, Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS) is far more convenient than Airport Weeze (NRN) although ticket prices may be higher too. Cologne-Bonn Airport (CGN) is a haven for low-cost airlines with excellent rail and bus links to Cologne, Bonn, and Düsseldorf.

I booked a flight to Dusseldorf with Ryanair (or so I thought) Now i realize it is actually over 35 miles away. I have a disabled husband which means |I can't use a bus so I have to book taxis. Do Ryanair deliberately mislead by using Dusseldorf as the title of the airport (Weeze) ?

Always look carefully when you book with RyanAir. It uses smaller airports way outside the city to offer these competitive prices. I think it is definitely in RyanAir's advantage to still use the name of the closest big city, but it also gives the customer some sense of orientation. I think they should call it Weeze (Dusseldorf) though...

By the way, it could be worse: RyanAir also uses airport Skavsta, calling it Stockholm, when in fact Skavsta lies over 50 miles south of Stockholm.
